"Fitness to Dive" medical certificates - Although divers either phone or
email me with questions about fitness to dive, these certificates can only be
issued following a medical examination. This may seem odd when I have informed
you that your medical issues are not problematic for diving, however I am only
in a position to certify divers "as fit to dive" following an assessment. These
certificates are legal documents and allow divers or their families to make a
financial claim against the doctor if something goes wrong. Therefore I am
required to have insurance which currently costs in excess of £5,000 pa. Hence
medico-legally I must conduct an appropriate assessment before signing these
certificates. The fee charged helps to cover this insurance premium.
